Project description
The project aims to promote women’s employment and economic empowerment in Kenya’s waste management and circular economy sectors. Co-funded by the IKEA Foundation under the WE4D programme, it focuses on strengthening micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), especially those led by women, through capacity building, gender-responsive training, improved access to markets and equipment, and the adoption of circular business models. By enhancing business capacity and integrating MSMEs into sustainable waste value chains, the project seeks to create decent, inclusive green jobs while advancing gender equality and environmental sustainability.
Job description
- Ensure that gender and people-with-disability considerations are integrated into all project activities.
- Support the adaptation of GmBS with a focus on gender-sensitive training modules for MSEs and lead the implementation of gender equality strategies.
- Lead selection process ensuring inclusion of women and PwD, provide backstopping to GmBS trainers during MSEs training, monitor the participation of women in project activities and ensure that gender targets are met.
- Support community engagement and awareness activities to promote gender equality within the waste management sector.
- Advise the team on best practices for fostering women’s economic empowerment.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology or Social Development
- Knowledge of English, C1-level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- 10 years of professional experience in gender equality or social inclusion within development cooperation projects
- 7 years of experience in designing and implementing gender-responsive capacity-building programs, addressing gender barriers and challenges
- 7 years of experience in developing and implementing gender analysis framework and tools
- 3 years professional experience working outside of Kenya or East Africa
- 3 years of experience working in Kenya and 2 years’ experience in East Africa
- 5 years of experience working in development cooperation projects
