The project aims to promote a just and sustainable energy transition in South Africa, aligned with the objectives of the Just Energy Transition Partnership. It will strengthen the policy and regulatory framework, enhance institutional capacity, and foster collaboration between government, development partners, and the private sector. The action supports the establishment of a Technical Assistance Facility that will provide flexible, responsive support for implementing policy reforms and strengthening partnerships. Through these interventions, the project contributes to achieving South Africa’s decarbonisation goals while ensuring economic resilience and social inclusion.
The Development Finance & Policy Advisor will provide technical advice on integrating energy and climate policies with financing mechanisms and support reforms to create an enabling environment for green investment. The role also involves engaging with DFIs and public institutions to foster sustainable infrastructure financing and investment partnerships.
General professional experience:
·Master’s degree in finance, economics, development studies, or a related discipline;
·At least 10 years of professional experience in development finance, infrastructure investment, or public–private partnership advisory;
·Proficiency in English (C1 level).
Specific professional experience:
·Minimum 7 years of experience working with or advising DFIs, public investment entities, or energy/climate finance programmes;
·Demonstrated experience with climate finance, blended finance, or green investment frameworks;
·Proven knowledge of energy sector financing, including power sector reform, investment planning, or PPP structuring;
·Familiarity with EU’s Global Gateway, EFSD+, Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs), or similar international investment platforms.
